Busan

We stayed several days in beautiful Busan - our hotel was across the street from this beach.  During the season I understand these beaches are packed with vacationers.  This time of year it was very tranquil.See the entrance to our hotel - it was easy to walk by and miss it.

Busan is noted for it's raw fish restaurants.  We went to dinner and had an assortment of raw fish.  This was not one of my favorite eating spots.  Here are some shots of the fish, most of which I did not try.  When the lady at the restaurant realized that I was not eating much - she fried a fish and brought it to the table, telling Ryan that I should eat this.  That was very kind and very welcome.  Mike also ate a healthy serving of the silkworms.  I tried those before when Ryan cooked them in Kansas City and saw no need to try them again.

The soup of tiny clams - I did eat this, very bland

Large plate of various raw fish - this I tried - like sashami

Morning breakfast was the most American thing we had the entire time - scrambled eggs, French toast, some sausage things.  Sad to say, a real treat to me after the raw fish dinner.  But remember, I loved most of the food I had in Korea.

Another great thing in Busan was going to the huge fish market - just an amazing variety- a few photos below.  This is where Ryan stopped at a small stall, bought a live baby octopus - which was cut up and served to us, still wriggling.  Videos of this are on the home page.

One of the treats at Busan was to go to the Spa Land at Shinsegae Department Store.  Shinesegae in Busan is the largest department store in the WORLD - Guinness Record Book certified!  And Spa Land is the largest spa in the WORLD.  We all went and wow - like the baths in Gwangju, each gender goes to a locker room that has massive showers and numerous hot tubs and mineral baths, both heated and cool.  After showering, you can either relax in the baths or go directly to the co-ed sauna portion of the Spa.  There are 22 different sauna rooms I think - of amazing variety.  All with heat (except for the cold room) of different temperatures which are posted on the doors outside.  Some with light waves, some with sound, some with steam, some with hot salt, etc.   We all had a massage as well - they offer quite a variety of massages, body, feet, head.  And there are large relaxing rooms with soft chairs and individual DVD screens.  They also have a cafe and snack bars - we each had a refreshing fruit vinegar drink - I took mine into the hottest sauna, and that is the trick to even entering these really hot ones.
No cameras inside the Spa - but here is a shot inside the department store - looking down through several stories
